Unit 17 - LO3 P4

Unit 17
LO3 - P4

Filming, filming and more filming!

In your groups you will start to think about all the equipment you'll need for specific scenes or effects, this may be lighting, LED's, Soft boxes etc or even could be more camera equipment with sliders, Shoulder mounts, Tripods etc.

Using your storyboard and production plan you will decide as a group on when you want to film and agree on a date, making sure all your team can make each date as well as external help like actors/actresses.

TASK 1) Roles & Test Shots

In your groups you will decide on who will take what responsibility for each part of your opening, you need to decide on the following roles:
- Cinematographer
- Editor
- Sound

Whichever role you choose means you will still help on the other persons role, if you are the editor you still help on shoots and vice versa for the cinematographer when it comes to the editing.

It's a group effort!

Test shots

Once you have decided on the group roles, make a list of all the equipment you will need and when.

Now start to test all the equipment you will need I.e. Sound person recording sound effects should test each microphone or if you have a running/tracking shot you should decide if the Flycam or Slider would be your best option.

Use your chosen equipment and go and test your shots from a scene in your storyboard. Upload screenshots of these to an A4 sheet and start to annotate:
- What equipment you used?
- How effective was the equipment?
- How you will resolve issues or use the equipment on your shoot date?

Task 2.) Shot list

Make sure you are always thinking about shot types, think OUTSIDE THE BOX. When deciding on shots, think about what will be in your frame, something menacing/scary should be shot from a low angle, or establishing should be a wide shot. Use the shot list sheet to complete your planning for the next few shoot days.

Think about the examples we looked at in the first lessons on horror openings and try to think what horror conventions could be included in your shot decision.

Also think about how you could switch up your filming, instead of mid shot after mid shot, how would you change the viewers experience, maybe change angles, POV, position etc.

Breaking bad is a perfect example.

TASK 3) Saving Project, Importing and transferring files

Even though this is boring its the most important to save you from losing your work a day before hand in!!!

Transferring
- After filming you will make your folder titled Raw footage and your groups names in the diploma 60 Unit folder in Documents. Once you have made your folder in Unit 17 you will use the SD card inserted into the MAC, highlight all your clips and drag and drop into your raw footage folder.

This will get you a MERIT!

Saving Projects.
- Open up Premiere pro and create a new project. Once open Import your footage using File > Import, next drag one clip into your sequence and choose change sequence settings when instructed. Next choose File > Save As > Make an EDITS folder in your Unit 17 folder and save your project with the title and number E.G Horror opening Group 82 (group names)

Job Done!
